Bringing his extensive experience and concern for safety, Captain Jon has taught several hundred student divers from ages 10 to 82 how to enjoy scuba diving and make it a lifelong endeavor. He started scuba diving when he was 9 years old and earned his PADI Junior Openwater certification at age 11. At age 16 he earned his PADI Advanced Openwater certification and joined the Destin Search and Recovery Team, a volunteer Public Safety Dive Team affiliated with the Destin Fire Department. He later became a full-time Deputy with the Sheriff's Office, tasked with running the Sheriff’s Office Underwater Investigation Unit and did so until he retired in 2011. In retirement, Captain Jon continues to teach SCUBA, Snorkel Squad, and his latest passion - Mermaiding. This opens up new ways to share the underwater world with more people- both young and old. Capt. Jon’s hope is to create a passion for the oceans, rivers, lakes and waterways of our planet in as many people as he can reach. If he can do that, he knows that each and every one he reaches will develop a passion to protect our planet’s waters

Wendy found her passion for SCUBA at age 14, after a DSD experience. In 2017 was introduced to how she could share that passion with other while living on the beautiful island of Oahu. In 2021 she because a full fledged PADI instructor after moving to the beautiful emerald coast. Her claim to fame is a Bubbly personality and a passion for the underwater world!&nbsp;

The diving conditions were excellent—clear waters, light currents, and no shortage of interesting underwater sights to take in. We spent the first tank exploring some of the natural reefs, keeping an eye out for any interesting fish or coral formations. While we didn't manage to spot any big trophy catches, it was still a pleasure to drift along, taking in the serene underwater landscape. For the second dive, we shifted over to one of the artificial reefs, where Jared pointed out some unique structures and formations that make this area so special for divers.
Between the two dives, we had a great time just relaxing on the boat, refueling, and swapping stories about our favorite diving spots. That camaraderie is what really makes these trips so memorable—not just the incredible sights you get to witness, but the opportunity to share the experience with a group of like-minded adventurers. Even without any trophy fish to show off, we still had an amazing time out there.

Submerged Exploration: Diving the Inshore Reefs of Destin, FL

It was a beautiful morning as I met up with Korey at the ScubaTech Destin facility to take him out for our Inshore Dive: 4 Hour - 2 Tank Dive. The conditions were perfect - clear skies and calm waters in Choctawhatchee Bay, ideal for an enjoyable day of exploring the underwater world.

As we got Korey all set up with his gear and did a quick gear check, I could tell he was excited to get in the water. We ran through the plan for the day - we'd be visiting a mix of natural reefs, artificial reefs, and wrecks, diving to depths of 60-90 feet. I emphasized the importance of staying close, keeping an eye on his air, and letting me know if he needed anything throughout the dives.

Once we were all ready, we made our way out to the first site. Korey was a confident diver, and he clearly enjoyed the thrill of exploring the underwater landscape. We saw some incredible marine life - schools of vibrant tropical fish, a few curious sea turtles, and even a few stingrays gliding along the seafloor. Korey was mesmerized, his eyes wide with wonder as he took it all in. After a great first dive, we headed to the next spot, and Korey was just as engaged and attentive, pointing out interesting creatures and rock formations.

By the time we wrapped up our second dive, Korey was all smiles. It was clear he had an incredible time out on the water with us. As we made our way back to the dock, I could tell he was already eager to plan his next dive adventure with ScubaTech Destin.
