Description
The PADI Divemaster course is the first professional level within the PADI System of diver education. As a Divemaster, you’ll work as a training assistant on PADI courses, supervise certified divers during diving experiences, and even conduct some PADI programs independently.
Becoming a PADI Divemaster involves three main segments:
- Knowledge development
- Practical application
- Divemaster final exam
The PADI Divemaster Online portion of the course covers nine key topics and prepares you for the practical sessions you need to complete the Divemaster course. Through PADI's eLearning® system and practical segments, you'll gain the skills and experience necessary to work as a professional diver.
Prerequisites
Before enrolling in the PADI Divemaster Online, you must meet the following requirements:
- At least 18 years old
- Current medical form (signed by a physician within the last 12 months)
- PADI Advanced Open Water Diver and PADI Rescue Diver or qualifying certifications from another organization
- Completed Emergency First Response (EFR) Primary and Secondary Care course within the past 24 months
- 40 logged dives (60 dives required to complete the course)
How Does it Work?
After enrolling, you will use PADI's eLearning system which includes interactive presentations with videos, audio, and quizzes to track your progress. The course is self-paced, allowing you to learn at your own speed while preparing for the practical segments.
We treat the Divemaster course like an internship, with the course duration ranging from a few weeks to a few months depending on your commitment. At the end, you will have the confidence to lead divers safely and represent dive professionals worldwide.
Materials
PADI Divemaster Online will provide perpetual access to the PADI Divemaster manual (ebook). To complete the course, you’ll also need:
- PADI Instructor Manual
- RDP & eRDPML Tables
- The Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving
- PADI Divemaster slates
ScubaTech can guide you on what additional materials are required and help you prepare for a successful course experience.
Other Costs
Once you complete the Divemaster course, there is a separate PADI application fee that must be submitted with your Divemaster application.
What Else is Required?
After completing the online portion, you’ll need to finish practical assessments, workshops, and assignments with a PADI Instructor. Additionally, you must:
- Successfully complete the Divemaster Final Exam
- Meet the professionalism criteria
How Long Do You Have to Complete the eLearning Course?
You have one year from the time of registration to complete the eLearning portion. However, you’ll have perpetual access to the PADI Divemaster manual after the course is over.
How Do You Document Completion of the eLearning Course?
Once you finish the eLearning portion, ScubaTech will be notified and you’ll be ready to begin the practical phase of your training. You can print out your eRecord and bring it to ScubaTech for your hands-on training.
